shanmugham shankar,commonly konwn as shankar the indian cinema creative director and producer who was predominantly works in tamil cinema industry.He was born on 17 august 1953,kumbakonam, tamilnadu, india.and he had wife easwari and two children, shankar parents were muthulakshmi and shangumam,he did a diploma in mechanical engineering from central polytechic college tharamani (c.p.t) before shankar entred in film industry,he recognised as a high budget director films,he directed his debut film gentlemen in the year of 1993,produced by k.g.kunjumon and shankar awarded the filmfare best film maker and the tamilnadu state film awarded best debut film director.he is one of the highest paid film maker in india. The two films which was directed by shankar BHARATHIYUDU and JEANS were submitted by india for the best foreign language film in 2007 and shankar was awarded an honary doctorate by M.G.R.university.
career
shankar starts his career as a assistant as a film directors likeS.A.chandrasekhar and pavithran. His first break i hindi film was an asistant director to s.a. chandrasehkar in jai shiv shankar produced by rahesh khana in the 1993,he started his debut film through gentleman,starring Arjun sarja in the lead role, the film was made with a higher budget in tamil cinema during that time,getleman won the positive response and became a blockbuster hit.A.R.rahman the films composorto work with shankar in his following 6 films.The second film was kadhalan(premekudu)a romantic film was released in the year of 1994,had prabhu deva in the lead role and this film also won the blockbuster talk hit at boxoffice and the third film was INDIAN(bharathiyudu)in the year of 1996 with the kamal hassan as a dual role and this film was critically acclaimed and also a commercial success and the film was selected academy award for the best foreign language film ,and he continues his success with the next film jeans which released in 1998 as a biggest expensive film in indian cinema at that time with the budget of rs.20 crores and it becomes one of the highest grosser in tamil film of the 1990s and he his continues his successful cinema story with the oke okadu with arjun sarja as a repeat combination after six years after this he started his debut film in hindi as nayak with anil kapoor as a lead role.In the year of 2003 he created a musical entertainer movie boys which received mixed response from the critics and the film audience promting it to do only average business at box office.he was released his next film in the year of 2005 as a psychological thriller anniyan(aparichitudu)with the first time combination of chiyyan vikram in a three different shades (remo,ramanujan,aparichitudu)and it was turned as a highest grosser in the tamilnadu in the year 2005.after this biggest success he starts his next film with superstar rajini kanth and avm productions the film name is sivaji was a budger of rs.60 crores the biggest film at the time of 2007and the magic of shankar with superstar rajnikanth shows at the boxoffice.after 3 years he started work with superstar rajnikanth the film known as robo with the combination of aishwarua rai.this film was produced by south indian media kalanithi maran it was made as a biggest budget of 100 crores and it repeats the magic of shankar with rajnikanth at the boxoffice as a one of the blockbuster hit in indian film history,which has released inthe year of 2010.after two years he released a remek film which is populared as 3idiots in indian film history this film was remek with vijay in tamil and telugu and its opened to highly positive response in 2012.after these remek film he decided to work again with chiyyan vikram as a lead roke "i" with amy jackson.this film will be release in the year of 2014.
